WE WILL POST RELEVANT TOURNAMENT UPDATES HERE...
4/30/08:
We have opted to combine age groups in order to encourage/allow competition in age groups that have few entries. Innovative, yes. Not very often that U17/16's get to play each other, or 14/15's or 13/12's. This mixing will give the even aged teams a chance to play up (but not too-high), and the odd-aged teams to be the oldest in their divisions (for once).
Keep in mind that this is just for the first round of pool play -- round 1 of pool will split each mixed age group into a D1 and a D2. Round 2 of pool play will seed into the playoffs. So, for instance, in the U15/14 Division, the better U14's will get to play up with the 15's in second round of pool and playoffs, etc.
Thank-you for your interest in the 2008 Memorial Day Classic Tournament in Kirkland, Washington. This is a first-year event -- open entry for any team that wants to play over Memorial Day Weekend. It is not an "invitational" style tournament, so teams will be accepted first come, first served, until the field fills. Also, this will be a two-day format event, allowing teams to enjoy Memorial Day off. The tournament will be held at various schools in and around the Eastside, and will be a two-day progressive pool play format similar to that of our Spring Classic tournament. There will be two rounds of pool play, followed by single elimination play. Saturday will be at least one round of pool (in most cases, the second round of pool will begin Saturday as well), Sunday will be the completion of the second round of pool and all of the playoff matches. Play will go until later in the day Sunday -- with Monday an off day.
This tournament provides an excellent opportunity for out of state teams (not able or unwilling to participate in the ECC Invitational Tournament) to spend the three-day weekend in the great city of Seattle, playing volleyball against some of the best teams in the Northwest.
Entry Deadline: April 17th, 2008. Entry Fee: $275.00
There is a $25 discount for very early registration and a $25 late fee for entries postmarked after April 17th, 2008. Entries after the deadline will only be accepted to fill the tournament -- so please call first.
Any
teams wishing to drop before May 1st will lose a $50
administrative fee. Any teams wishing to drop out of the
tournament between May 9th and April 24th, 2008 will lose 1/2
of their entry fee. After May 14th, 2008 there will be no
refund of entry fee.
There will be a coaches meeting 30 minutes prior to the beginning of play on Saturday at your site. Please bring a team roster. Playing schedules will be available online up to one week prior to the tournament. We post the playing schedule on the website as a courtesy, please be advised that with tournaments this size, there are last seconds drops and changes. Those will be posted to the top of this page.
