2010 JUNIOR BEACH SERIES EVENT #2 TEAMS | RECAP | RESULTS | STANDINGS This is the second year we have been approved for an AAU Qualifying Event. We are proud to be offering our players the chance to compete at the National Level. This also serves as the second event in the NWVB Junior Beach Series and points go towards the series standings. This event is a Qualifier for two separate AAU NATIONAL EVENTS.
A NOTE ON THE SERIES: Some people that did not get into our Series Event #1 on June 6th expressed concern that since they missed #1, they couldn't play in #2, etc. That can't be further from the truth. The intent of the series is to encourage players to play in all four events, yes -- and we do offer one grand prize for the individual that accumulates the most points over the course of the series. HOWEVER, each tournament in our series is it's own independent event. Each event is first come first served, about 10-20% of the field signs up for all four event, which means that a lot of the participants only play in 1-3 events. Another question was asked about the fact that this is an AAU qualifier and whether or not it was just for the best players... again, we want to emphasize that all of our events are for EVERYBODY no matter their level of play. If they enter before the event fills -- they are in!
Remember to patronize Christo's on Alki, our official restaurant down there on the beach -- they give a 20% discount to participants and their families, but you have to bring them the coupon you pick up at check-in.
Here is a list of the teams, if your team is not listed, we did not receive your entry. Depending on the number of pre-registered teams, we will be taking walk-up registrations the morning of the event if space is available. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND PRE-REGISTRATION...we filled our tournament on June 6th, and closed registration on June 4th. Many people thought that they would be able to register the morning of the event and waited, and did not get in. If there is room available at the time we close registrations (Noon, June 11th) we will highlight the available openings for walk-ups below. Assuming thee are any openings, we will take entries the morning of the event beginning at 8:15 AM: The Second annual Pacific Northwest AAU District Championship was another great junior beach event for us with a record 64 teams participating. The growth of beach volleyball is evident here in the Northwest when we get 120+ players out in early June, while the indoor season is still in full swing. Medalists in each age group were granted a bid to the AAU National Championships. Many of our participants were using this event as a break from indoor season as they prepared to represent the Puget Sound Region at the YJOV National Championships in Reno. There were some great teams in attendance. Particularly impressive was the final of the U18 Division where Allie Hadley (Bothell, WA) and Lee Haataja (Mill Creek, WA) defeated Rachel Roeder (Issaquah, WA) and Chloe Sliger (Seattle, WA) in a spirited final and took home the gold medal. Also featured was another consistent finish for the U16 team of Heather Hernandez and Mackenzie March. Normal top U16 Participants, Taylor Buell and Ceaira Robinson dropped to their natural age group to take home the gold in the U14's Division -- defeating points leaders Isabella Zubrod and Kateri Blodgette-Baker. Congratulations to all medalists!
